Sumpter, a Newberry, South Carolina native, became interested in the field of construction through his grandfather who built the family home he grew up in. This interest in construction continued to grow and prompted Sumpter to further his education; he graduated from Piedmont Technical College with a degree in Applied Science, majoring in Building Construction Technology. Sumpter worked in the construction management field with other general contractors for nearly a decade before joining Clifton Construction in 2022. Sumpter resides in South Carolina and is married with three children.

Steve holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Building Construction from Auburn University. This foundational education has guided his professional journey.

Professional Experience

Steve began his career at Construction Management Services in Hilton Head, South Carolina, initially working in estimating and purchasing. Recognized for his abilities, he quickly rose to the position of Superintendent, overseeing subcontractors and material suppliers. He then moved to Austin Construction and Development Company, where he climbed the ranks from Superintendent to Project Manager and eventually to Vice President of the Commercial Construction Division. Here, he managed projects ranging from renovations to new constructions, in both residential and commercial sectors. During his tenure, the company’s annual volume grew to over $16 million.

Key Achievements

Steve took a leap of faith in June 1986 to start his own construction business in Augusta, Georgia. Building on Christian principles, integrity, and hard work, he has sustained and grown his business for over 20 years, largely through client referrals.
